About KBHR

Over the past 17 years, I've worked alongside founders, CEOs, and executive teams navigating the full spectrum of people challenges—from 4-person startups to global enterprises with 30,000+ employees. Most of my career has been spent in strategic leadership roles, both guiding executives through critical decisions that shape their businesses and building the HR infrastructure that allows organizations to operate smoothly day-to-day.

Navigating Decisions Without Clear Answers

I excel at guiding leadership teams through complex decisions that don't have clear precedents. The termination that could expose the company to legal risk. The organizational restructure that will impact long-tenured employees. The compensation dilemma where market data conflicts with internal equity. The cultural issue that's affecting performance but feels impossible to address directly. These are the moments when leaders need more than policy guidance—they need a trusted advisor who can help them think through complexity, anticipate consequences, and make difficult decisions with confidence.

Beyond Strategic Counsel

But strategic counsel is only part of the equation. Business owners and executives also need someone who can handle the ongoing complexities of HR—the performance review system that needs implementing, the benefits strategy questions, the manager asking about FMLA, the job description that needs refining, the compensation benchmarking for a new role. These aren't crisis moments, but they're time-consuming, nuanced, and require expertise you shouldn't have to develop yourself. My role is to take these people challenges off your plate so you can focus on running and growing your business.

Why KBHR

I founded KBHR because small to mid-sized businesses often lack access to senior-level HR expertise—both for the high-stakes moments and the day-to-day guidance that keeps operations running smoothly. You're faced with choosing between the significant investment of a full-time executive, or fragmented consulting that doesn't understand your business needs. My practice serves clients who need strategic HR leadership, either as an ongoing fractional partner embedded in your operations, or for specialized projects requiring deep expertise.

My approach is informed by my Master's Degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and nearly two decades building HR infrastructure, designing talent systems, and advising executives through transformation and change. I've implemented performance management frameworks, led compensation strategy, managed full-cycle recruiting, navigated sensitive employee relations issues, and guided leadership teams through the high-stakes moments that keep executives up at night.

I work with clients across the full spectrum of HR needs—from thinking through complex organizational challenges to providing same-day guidance on urgent employee situations. The goal is to be your strategic thinking partner for the decisions that don't have playbooks, your expert resource for building sound people systems, and your trusted advisor for everything in between.

As Executive Director of Talent Management at the Office of Experience, Kelly led all aspects of people strategy for the digital consultancy, scaling the organization from 17 to 85 employees while serving as a member of the senior leadership team.

Kelly excelled at the dual mandate of her role: guiding executives through situations that didn't have playbooks—sensitive terminations, organizational restructures, compensation dilemmas, and cultural challenges—while simultaneously building and managing the HR systems that allowed the organization to operate effectively day-to-day.

Kelly's approach is informed by her Master's degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and nearly two decades working at the intersection of strategic advisory and operational excellence. She has built her expertise in high-growth creative environments where executives need both a thinking partner for difficult decisions and a reliable expert who can handle the ongoing complexities of managing people.

Prior to OX, Kelly led talent strategy for VML's Chicago office during a pivotal period of transformation—contributing to the agency's rise to the 2016 AdAge A-List while managing 75% headcount growth. Her career also includes strategic roles at Leo Burnett Worldwide, Rise Interactive, and Slack and Company. This experience across global enterprises, high-growth startups, and mid-market firms gives her the pattern recognition to help leaders see around corners and the practical expertise to build HR infrastructure that scales.
